Composing, producing and performing her own music, Tristan studied jazz vocals at the Conservatory of Ghent and Tilburg University and at the tender age of 17, she took her first steps towards a promising recording career when she formed SIAM, and then won the prestigious East Flemish music award, Oost in 2015. Her live shows have not gone unnoticed with sold-out shows in her hometown and rave reviews for further shows at We Are Open (Trix) and Gent Jazz. She also caught the attention of Belgian-Egyptian musician Tamino who invited her to support him on tours throughout France, Belgium and the Netherlands. She recently supported dEUS frontman Tom Barman’s TaxiWars on a 6-date Benelux tour.

A story of love and growth, ‘Wellif’ calls on a diversity of forms, rhythms, melodic ideas and harmonies and at the heart of the album lies Tristan’s beguiling voice. She effortlessly melds electronica with pop and just a hint of jazz, and it’s clear she has a natural love affair with sounds and is not afraid to embrace the artificial. With a fondness for wigs, made-up words and synthesizers, Tristan toys with the perception of what’s real and what’s not.

From the surreal rumblings of ‘Ian Des’ and the mesmeric soundscapes of ‘Human Allergy’ about a break-up where several people are hurt and the insecurities and projections that incur, to the rich soundings of ‘Wildmouth’, across her debut album, Tristan guides us in the way of the human condition, baring the parts of ourselves we are too scared to examine. From heartbreaker to having her heart broken, she’s a blushing girl one minute, a sinister diva the next. Or actually, she’s both. She’s Maurice Ravel and she’s Death Grips.

Elsewhere, ‘it’s him’ is a desperately personal account of a previous failed relationship while ‘Isuk’ is lush and seductive, partly inspired by the sounds of Brazilian bossa maestro, João Gilberto. In sharp contrast to the silky atmosphere of the music, stand the defiant lyrics, speaking of cross-generational, feminine pride, growth, and healing. All over the world, womanhood is still a battleground. Even in the 21st century, every mother and every daughter still faces an uphill battle for equality. ‘Isuk’ is a tribute to both the determination and so called ‘soft power’ of women.

In addition, the raw ‘Hellballad’ has its roots in musical theatre, a common theme to Tristan’s music and draws natural comparisons with artists including Kate Bush and Bats for Lashes while the gentle and emotive ‘marty’, showcases her amazing instincts for atmosphere and color, light and shade. Tristan’s world is truly one of wonder, of curiosity and transformation.
