Multi-instrumentalist and composer Stian Carstensen is a multiple prize-winning recipient of the Norwegian Music Industry Awards. He has collaborated with many renowned artists in a multitude of projects. Musically he is recognized for groundbreaking work blending together different styles and traditions to push the boundaries of what is considered feasible. He has received glowing reviews from critics and fans alike who warm to his affable and personal stage-performances.

His new studio-album is called “Musical Sanatorium”. Each track title combines cerebral elements and traditional dances and aims to stimulate the mind with effervescent imagery and evoke a contemplative reverie which will linger long in the listener’s afterthoughts. As a renowned ‘style-bender’ of repute, Stian naturally attracts a distinct calibre of musical collaborator. With his new songs he has utilized the talents of Ola Kvernberg, Jarle Vespestad, Finn Guttormsen, Audun Sandvik, Atle Sponberg, Bjarne Magnus Jensen, Sidsel Walstad, Torbjorn Dyrud, Pal Hausken, Gabriel Carstensen Oien, Finn Guttormsen, Todd Terje, Jacob Collier, Marinette Tonning-Olsen and even the one and only Mike Patton.

When you’re not only familiair with Patton’s work with Faith No More, Mr. Bungle, Dead Cross and/or Tomahawk, but delved into his solo-work, ost-albums and collaborations with the likes as Jean-Claude Vannier, John Zorn and John Erik Kaada as well, this is a great harbinger of the music on this fantastic new album by Stian Carstensen. The overall sound of this album is epic evoking (folky/proggy) 70’s pop music and orchestral, moving and thrilling classic movie scores.
